It would be really useful to have the booking phone number somewhere noticeable on the site, i.e. in the header - Especially with the slightly confusing online booking area by which I mean, you choose the show you want, click to book then have to search for it all over again through a text list.

It was with absolutely no preconception whatsoever that I entered the foyer of Artrix, Bromsgrove, for an evening ‘Beyond the Silk Road’. Now I know the Bromsgrove Festival has a certain reputation for providing a wide and entertaining programme each year to us Bromsgrovians - I vividly recall the occasion, some years ago now, when the young Jennifer Pike (13 going on 30) blew me away with her quite brilliant performance on the violin at St. Johns Church. So, when confronted with a multi cultured motif’, Bangladesh folk songs and all built around ‘Chinese music’, you could be forgiven for running for the hills. The Grand Union Band, a select group of players from their orchestra, were, on this occasion, eleven immensely talented musician playing an unusual assortment of instruments. Some modern, others traditionally Chinese. Not that you would easily suggest a melodic relationship, but one that surprisingly work well. Very well. From the very first note of the opening piece, suitably called ‘Galloping Horse’, to the last ‘Dance of the Yo People’ the audience were tapping away in time to the break neck speed of play. The overall jazz effect was unmistakable. Think of the late, great Humphrey Lyttleton (lost from music and comedy only last week) crossed with the The Water Margin. No, that’s not quite it. Courtney Pine and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. No, still not right. A unique sound, most definitely. All this superb colourful sound was woven/conducted/led/inspired from the keyboard by Tony Haynes with his masterful gift of communication with fellow multi national players, bordering on the telepathic at times. As chairman of a local professional classical orchestra (The Midland Sinfonia, as your asking) I’m pretty much used to the more structured form of producing music. Herr Mozart and Beethoven would not be best pleased attempting to play their lovingly composed notes in a different order. Whether you know your Pentatonic scale from your elbow, this offering by Mary White and her dedicated team was a revelation. If only we could harness this exquisite harmony to soothe the world’s troubled brow. Music should be a requirement of life. A heady concoction of influences included calypso, modern caribbean, reggae, ancient Chinese, folk, jazz, African, Turkish ... well you get the picture. This all added up to another outright success for Bromsgrove Festival.

To all Crew and Staff, Thanks for the warm welcome to your theatre on Friday for the 'Johnny Cash Roadshow'. The event will be one which the band will remember as a special evening in our tour.

Really enjoyed Harry Potter and the order of the Pheonix at the Artix. Could have done with an interval but thanks very much for bringing the cinema to more local audience as I don't like going to Rubery as it is too big and impersonal
