Central England Ensemble

Central England Ensemble was formed in 2001 by local violinist Anna Downes in order to fulfil two main aims: to provide a high-standard platform for young orchestral performers, and to showcase the music of Midlands composers. The orchestra performs a work by a living Midlands composer in every concert.

In this concert, entitled New Beginnings - A Russian Spring, CEE, conducted by Music Director, Anthony Bradbury, will perform Shostakovich's Festive Overture and his Symphony no 10. The orchestra will give the first performance of Tony Bridgewater's Piano Concerto no 2, with the composer as the soloist. Bridgewater is Director of Music at Old Swinford Hospital School in Stourbridge.
