We welcome people with disabilities and are committed to ensuring that your visit is easy, enjoyable and straight-forward. We have level access to the main foyer, an adapted toilet on two floors and an infrared system for the hard of hearing.
See the space
At Artrix we appreciate that coming into a new space can be daunting and that sometimes visits are easier if you can take look inside the performance spaces prior to your visit. We will always do our best to accommodate visitors who, for any reason, would like to look around The Studio or Auditorium. We do however advise that you contact us beforehand to check that the spaces are not in use. You can contact the Box Office on 01527 577330 where you can chat to one of our clerks about our accessibility or to arrange a visit.
Our café is the perfect place to meet friends for lunch, or sit down with a coffee and slice of cake. We also have a soft-play area for 0-3 year olds located in our café. The café is located in our main foyer where access is completely level and there is plenty of space to manoeuver around.
We have designated wheelchair spaces within the Auditorium and these are kept off general sale. If you require these accessible spaces then please book through the Box Office on 01527 577330.
Our Auditorium is accessed via the ground, first and second floor and there is lift access up to the first and second floors. The Studio is up on the second floor and seating is unreserved; if you require accessible seating for The Studio then please contact the Box Office.
Row F in the Auditorium has completely level ground floor access and then there are two shallow steps to access each row down or up from there (A-P). Row R on the balcony and side galleries is level access from the second-floor lift and row P side galleries is level access from the first-floor lift. Please note that row P in the stalls (1-14) has two shallow steps down to access it.
We run a complimentary ticket scheme for carers and companions assisting disabled customers for performances and events.
We have accessible adapted toilets located on the ground and second floors.
Hard of Hearing
We programme subtitled screenings for the hard of hearing, where possible, and have an infrared induction loop in the main auditorium. If you are hard of hearing, please note that the induction loop works best in the main auditorium - Rows A-P, seats 1-14.
We have 3 disabled parking bays located in our staff car park (access via School Drive, B60 1AX) and plenty of free parking in our main customer car park (B60 1GN).
We believe that it's never too early for children to get involved in the arts and creativity, and it's incredibly important to us to be a place where families with young children feel welcomed, involved and most importantly, at home.
We want Artrix to feel like your place - somewhere you can drop in for a cuppa and a chat with friends, where your children can play safely in our free soft play area, where you can find space to breathe.
And we're constantly adding new regular activities for your under 3s to get involved with, from bringing in well-known names such as Rhythm Time and Creation Station, to our home-produced baby raves, weekly play group and Big People Little People movement sessions.
Our café is the perfect place to meet up with friends for lunch or just a cup of coffee. The café is situated on the ground floor, with level access, baby changing facilities and plenty of space for pushchairs. We have comfy sofas and a free soft-play area for 0-3s! There are free-to-use high chairs and a child-friendly menu in the café. More information on café opening times can be found here.
Coming to an auditorium show and worried that the little one may struggle to see? Not a problem! All of our seating is tiered and we have free-to-use booster seats available to give them that extra boost.
Relaxed Performances / Screenings:
Relaxed performances are open to all, but specifically designed to welcome those who benefit, for whatever reason, from a more relaxed environment, such as people with sensory and communication disorders, a learning disability or autism spectrum condition.
Some of our screenings are subtitled and we also offer parent and baby screenings.
We are an official member of the Dementia Action Alliance.
Assistance Dogs are welcome at any time, both in the café and performance spaces. The dogs can sit in with you; usually under the chair. We advise that, if bringing an assistance dog, you sit on the end of an aisle as there is a little more space.
Please can you contact the Box Office in advance, if you are bringing an assistance dog to a production, so that we are aware and can make any necessary arrangements. You can either email firstname.lastname@example.org or phone us on 01527 577330.
We'd love to hear from you! If you have any comments or suggestions on accessibility at Artrix, please contact our Director, Hannah Phillips, at email@example.com or 01527 962893.
