The Orchestra of St John’s next concert at St John’s Church in Bromsgrove features a mouth-watering programme:
Mendelssohn: Fingal’s Cave
Venables: Venetian Songs’ for Tenor and Orchestra; Soloist –Anando Mukerjee. First UK Performance
Schumann: Konzert Stucke for Four Horns and Orchestra; Soloists Claire Burnell, Graham Stroud, Lauren Storey and Helen Rudeforth
Dvorak: 8th Symphony
The concert starts with Mendelssohn’s evocation of his visit to the majestic Fingal’s Cave in the Hebrides and ends with Dvorak’s sublime 8th Symphony that is full of memorable tunes and an ending that will leave you full of joy!
In between, our team of French Horns have their day with Schumann’s Konzert Stucke and we also celebrate the world of melody with a UK première of outstanding songs for tenor and orchestra by the Worcester-based composer, Ian Venables. His ‘Venetian Songs’ will be sung by renowned Indian tenor Anando Mukerjee, accompanied by the Orchestra, all under the direction of our conductor, Richard Jenkinson.
There will be a free pre-concert talk for ticket holders with composer Ian Venables, presented by chief music critic of The Birmingham Post, Christopher Morley.
