POSITIVE THINKING AT DODFORD FIRST SCHOOL WITH ARTRIX DRAMA PROJECT
The children of Dodford First School have been working alongside Artrix’s Youth Theatre Director, Tom Craig on a project entitled ‘The Butterfly Project’, focusing on mental health well-being.
The year 4 children, aged 8 and 9 years old have explored many themes, such as memories and resilience during weekly workshops with Artrix staff. These creative workshops have taken place at the school for the past eight weeks, working towards a sharing of their performance. Parents, teachers and fellow students were invited to watch the show, which took place on Wednesday 22nd November.
Artrix Youth Theatre Director, Tom Craig said, “Creating this performance with the children at Dodford School has been a fantastic experience. The hope is that by devising a piece like The Butterfly Project with the input of the children and by talking openly about feelings and emotions, Artrix can help to promote positive mental health with primary school pupils.”
Headteacher of Dodford First School, Lisa Parkes said “Tom Craig worked with our Year 4 children on the Butterfly Project for 8 weeks which led to a wonderful performance being shared with the rest of the school and their parents and families.
The Butterfly Project explored themes of transition, resilience and relationships and has been thoroughly enjoyed by the children and covered themes explored with our Growth Mindset and Wellbeing curriculum which, in part, will help them prepare for their move on to middle school next year.”
