Join us for an evening of live music with The Strays, The Fireballs and The Delray Rockets
The Strays are pushing rock ‘n’ roll to its limit, fusing a multitude of genres to create a unique modern sound with a gritty, vintage edge. Described as No Doubt meets Imelda May, The Strays performance style is larger than life, interactive, and deliciously unpredictable. After smashing onto the scene and releasing their debut EP in April 2017, the Cheltenham based garage rock ‘n’ roll band were soon endorsed by Vocalzone and featured as ones to watch in UK Rock n Roll Magazine. 2018 saw the release of their eagerly awaited second EP ‘Brand New Day’ coupled with a support slot on Republica’s reunion tour and a packed UK festival schedule which culminated in the accolade of The Cotswolds Best Band 2018 award. A stint of o2 Academy shows supporting Undateables star Daniel Wakeford and Eddie and The Hot Rods, as well as the band being immortalised in a worldwide release of the Garage Bandcard game rounded off a successful year. The Strays have been building their brand with a rigorous gigging schedule, quality content and engaging social media campaigns. The Strays are a unique package who are quickly gaining momentum and the buzz around the band is palpable. 2019 will see their debut album recorded with Western Star Records followed by a full UK Tour, including support slots with Black Water County, The Hawkmen and The Creepshow.
“Rambunctious, vibrant and loud rock ‘n’roll, combining intelligent lyrics, impressive guitars and addictive pop hooks that will leave you swinging” – Anselm Anderson, Rock Chic
“You’ll be sucker punched by the huge, vigorous upbeat music they produce” – Lee Powell, UK Rock n Roll Magazine
“If you’re not dancing, you’ll wear a hole in your pants, because it’s impossible to sit still” – Graham Munn, Rhythm n Booze
Fireballs play late 1950's/early 60's Rock'n'Roll. Their speciality is the "British sound" of circa 1960 with hits from such UK artists as Cliff Richard and the Shadows, Johnny Kidd, Billy Fury, Tommy Steele and Marty Wilde. They also play the classic USA hits of the Rock'n'Roll era from Bill Haley, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry and many more. The band have a big reputation on the Rock'n'Roll circuit, playing all over the country and also abroad. The Fireballs are a family band, the lead vocalist Martin plays the double bass and his two sons Anthony and Russell play the guitars, their friend Darren is the drummer.
The Delray Rockets
The Delray Rockets were conceived over a conversation I (Gaz Le Bass) had when playing Upright Bass for another band, with Oz, who was in the audience, during the break of the show he was telling me how much he wanted to play in a band once more after giving it up when he badly damaged his hand in an accident, I was telling him how I thought Rock'n'Roll and Rockabilly would be great if it had a new musical burst of energy, (similar to what Nitrous Oxide does to a petrol engine) Much like what the Stray cats did in the 80's but with a tougher, harder more Rocking edge to it, We got together and ran thru some songs, and after several line up changes and going thru more drummers than Spinal Tap, we arrived with what we have today.
Our Roots come from all genres of music but definitely the roots of Rockabilly but fuel injected and Rocked up.
We have n't really had a bad gig and what we have perceived as our own take of Rock'n'Roll/ Rockabilly seems to have gone down well, filling our diaries well into next year, We have played alongside The Polecats, Vincent Flatts, The Red Lemons, Steve Gibbons, The Blockheads, Bruce Foxtons The Jam, the Beat, Dizzy Lizzy, Barrence Whitfield and the Savages, the legendary Wurzels. We also did the pre-Tour Party with Def Leppard and most recently done a couple of gigs with guest vocalist Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin fame.
Our Inspirations come from all genres of Music but obviously our foundation of influence comes from early Rockabilly/ Rock'n'Roll and Blues.
A Delray Rockets gig is a high energy affair with a power packed sound, playing some "Old Chestnuts", we have revamped some timely covers and several of our own self penned Originals thrown in the mix as well.
Most of our set is a good mix of all of what has inspired us musically, from Brit Rocker Vince Taylor's Brand New Cadillac, Billy Lee Riley’s Red Hot, Junior Parker's Mystery Train with some of our self penned songs going down a storm.... "Rockabilly Fool", "Deuces Wild", "Some of what you see" and getting lots of air play by the BBC Introducing sessions Beer O'Clock Boogie then a less obvious choice getting lots of requests from the audiences around the UK our own take on the Gloria Jones Classic, Tainted Love and The Undertones "Teenage Kicks" Originally a Punk song but revamped into a Good heavy Bopper..
The Delray Rockets have a full diary this year with large venues, Mini tours, Large Tours, Festivals and not forgetting the roots of every band, the Pub circuit, we feel the need to stick with pub gigs just as much as feeling the need to branch out into European tours as this is the grass roots of every band, so we feel it's important to keep your feet firmly in the roots as this keeps us "Grounded".
